This practice is ONE OF A KIND. It is a traditional dental practice that has been in the same location for 30 years. The doctor decided in the mid 1990’s to tweak the traditional dental model to bring larger cases to his practice.
Having a traditional practice where you run from one patient to another, doing one or two restorations on each patient, and then having multiple hygiene exams to do as well, can become very stressful for a doctor over the course of a career.
To be able to slow the practice and do larger cases (which, incidentally, are much more appreciated by the patients) with less staff became the goal. This was accomplished by combining a fee for service practice with only the better insurance plans. The doctor has marketed aggressively to bring in the larger cases- many of which are not insurance driven patients. He has reduced his accounts receivable to almost nothing, in fact in some months it has been negative.
The base of the practice is still general dentistry, so that when the larger cases diminish with the ups and downs of the economy, there is still treatment that can be done to reduce the effect of these fluctuations. All the while, over these last 30 years, the doctor has maintained a reputation for an uncompromising commitment to providing his patients the highest quality dentistry – thus driving word-of-mouth referrals to the practice.
The doctor averages 7-8 patients per day along with 8 hygiene patients. He also generates 12-15 new patients per month. The doctor will work back in the practice or mentor (if desired) to help the new doctor with a successful transition. This is only at the request of the purchasing dentist.
The practice is located in a great community in which to live and practice dentistry. It is in a growth area with great future potential. It is located within a 1 to 1 ½ hour drive of both San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. There is a large lake nearby as well as two large rivers that intersect in the area. Snow is available within a 45 minute drive, yet the weather in the area does not include having to deal with snow.
